At Forester Music Therapy Services we view substance abuse as a brain disease with complex neurobiological, psychological, social, and spiritual components. In addition we believe that addiction can also be a symptom connected many contributing factors such as chemical imbalances, unresolved events from the past, holding negative beliefs about oneself, and an inability to cope with current stress.
Getting better is not easy, but with hard work and skilled support maintained sobriety can be achieved. Statistics show that people who are involved in the counseling/therapy services are much more likely to succeed at long term recovery than people who do not participate in these services. Utilizing music therapy in addition to traditional counseling can provide multifaceted support for the recovering person.
Music is one of the few activities that utilize both sides of the brain simultaneously. This can be effective in providing new stimulation to a person's newly sober brain. Our approach is three-fold, music, meditation, and mindfulness.
