Nicole Forester earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Therapy from Utah State University (2002) followed by an AMTA approved internship at Bethany Children’s Home in Pennsylvania. Following this she worked for a private practice in Maryland providing music therapy services for individuals with developmental disabilities, adults with chronic mental illness, and older adults with dementia.
In 2007 Nicole graduated with a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling. At the same time she managed the music therapy program at University of Utah’s Neuropsychiatric Institute. There she provided group and individual music therapy sessions for adults and adolescents on the five inpatient psychiatric units. In addition she established an additional full-time music therapy position to increase services for the child and adolescent units.
Nicole has had a variety of mental health counseling experiences during her professional career. She provided in-home crisis services to families through Utah Youth Village utilizing the Teaching-Family Model of care. She worked for Project Reality providing counseling support to adults dealing with opioid addiction. While at Outpatient Counseling Services in Boston, Nicole provided a full range of individual and group psychotherapy services to a variety of clients. These included: adolescents and adults dealing with mental illness, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, childhood trauma, domestic violence, and community violence. She also led group therapy sessions for the Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Program. Her specialties include Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Childhood Trauma Recovery, and Addiction Recovery.
Nicole established this private practice in 2012 in California where she provided outpatient music therapy and professional counseling services, in-home music therapy for children and teens in hospice, and support for teens in residential treatment. In addition she created an early-childhood music program called Songbirds to encourage creativity and build self-esteem in children and parents.
After relocating to Colorado, she re-established her private practice, adding support to military families. In addition she has completed training through the religious trauma institute to support survivors of cult trauma. She currently provides teletherapy for clients in California, Colorado, Utah, Florida, and Hawaii.
